Siena, Italy

Siena - My first trip abroad and what started my travel journey! During the Spring 2012 semester, I came across a flyer about a new study abroad program that would be launching that summer in Siena, Italy. The description caught my attention and I started to gather as much information as I could.  I applied, hoped for the best, and got accepted to participate in the program. I was so excited and looking forward to my first ever international trip! From June-July 2012, Siena was home. I wandered the streets of this medieval city during my free time trying my best to soak in all of the history that surrounded me. The main event of this trip was Il Palio, a horse race that had been going on in this city for centuries. It was one of the most memorable events I have ever witnessed. From the moment we arrived until the day of the race, the atmosphere pulsed with pride and excitement from each contrada. The excitement would just sweep you up and have you feeling like part of the city; a feeling I will never forget. I haven't had the chance to return yet, but I'll make it happen!
